Armenian Gull (Larus Armenicus)
Avid birders are always looking for new awesome bird watching destinations to check off lifers from their bucket list. These feathery friends fuel wanderlust and are sometimes reasons for picking destinations to travel to. Did you know that although Armenia doesn’t have a sea, there is a type of gull called the Armenian gull (Larus armenicus), and the Lake Sevan in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia - is a haven for these birds?
The Armenian gull nests beside mountain lakes in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, and Western Iran. It is a partial migrant, with many birds wintering on the coasts of Turkey, Lebanon, and Israel. Smaller numbers reach Cyprus, Egypt, and the Persian Gulf. However, the largest colonies of them can be found only in Armenia at Lake Sevan and Lake Arpi.
By choosing our Bird Watching Tour you will have enough time on the shores of Lake Sevan to walk around it, relax for a bit to eat and spend time watching and photographing the birds. If the water is calm during the journey, we will arrange a boat cruise, that will circle the Sevan peninsula so you can see the outstanding scenery of the lake.
