Stepanavan "Sochut" Dendropark, Lori Province Of Armenia

Stepanavan "Sochut" Dendropark is located not far from the city of Stepanavan in the Lori Province of Armenia, in a two-hour drive from the Armenia's capital Yerevan.

A huge area of 35 hectares is occupied by a forest covering a wide variety of plants. This is a unique corner of nature, where a collection of trees, shrubs and flowers from all over the world is collected. With their beauty, most of them resemble exquisite works of art.

Stepanavan Dendropark is the first botanical garden in Armenia. It was founded in 1933 by the Polish forestry engineer Edmond Leonowicz. In 1958, the Dendropark received the status of a reserve. When Leonowicz, the founder and director of the Dendropark, died in 1986, the Armenian authorities allowed him to be buried here, among his "pets".

The local climate is cool, as the territory of the Dendropark is located at an altitude of 1,550 meters above sea level. Exotic species of trees and rare plants are scattered among the parks of the reserve on an area of 15 hectares. Many of them were acquired as part of the international exchange programs from other botanical gardens in Tbilisi, Kyiv, Moscow and the Far East. Samples were also received from more distant countries such as the USA, Germany, Portugal and France.

On the rest of the territory of the Dendropark, which is almost 20 hectares, a natural wild forest grows.

Being a health zone, the Dendropark serves as a wonderful resort - it is a quiet and cozy area for excursions with family and friends all year round. It is very clean, well maintained with neat paths. The garden is attractive in every season, but especially in May, when the pine trees release their pollen.

Everyone will be able to spend an interesting and good time here, without haste and fuss, walking through the garden, and for those who want to spend their holidays next to this beautiful corner, there is a health sanatorium "Sochut" nearby.
